Product Information

What happens when you hear what you are saying 1/10 second after you’ve said it?
This exhibit demonstrates that even a small delay in hearing makes normal speech
difficult. It can be used to discuss the anatomy of the ear, the physical attributes of
sound, concepts in stuttering and evaluating the hearing impaired. (Available in
adult and child sizes)
In speaking, you usually hear words while you say them. Through feedback we
continually adjust and correct our voice as we speak and sing. This feedback
requires and elaborate and rapid mechanism. Disturbance in the feedback
immediately disturbs the speech so that, in this case, even a tiny delay between
speaking and hearing can make normal speech impossible.
