Soap Film Painting
Experiment with concepts of light, color and waves with this exhibit.
Product Information
Visitors hoist a bar out of a soap solution reservoir along guide wires, creating a large (5’ square) soap film. Blowing on the bubble sheet can distort the film into interesting reflective shapes, while shaking the frame can excite various resonant standing waves.
A soap film is a soapy water sandwich, with two outside layers of soap molecules forming boundaries around a layer of water. The thickness of the film changes as the water drains down the inside of the soap. The light reflecting from the front of the film meets up with the light reflecting from the back of the film, and the waves combine to form beautiful colors called interference patterns.
Price includes complete tank and frame assembly, soap solution, mounted graphics, technical manual and warranty. Choice of paint and laminate color included.
NOTE: This exhibit requires placement in a dark area with a black wall behind the tank and a flood lighted white wall in front of it. The exhibit relies on the reflected light off the white wall to make it visible. You will also need a non-slip surface (such as carpet mats) to prevent slips and falls.
